The Old Country

Pèpe's grandparents' hometown on the Bay of Naples — where the Amalfi coast, the volcano, and the family recipes all begin. In vino veritas.

A Baker at 14

Raised in a large Italian neighborhood along the Hudson, Pèpe started in a family bakery at fourteen. "I'm a baker first, a chef second."

The West Coast's Shangri-La

Welcomed by local Sicilian fishing families, Pèpe found a village by the sea that felt like home — and made it his life's work.

Little Napoli

Bistro Italiano

The iconic Italian restaurant of the Monterey Peninsula for over thirty years. Sink into a chair by the fireplace inside the historic 1921 El Paseo building, where stucco beams cross overhead in a perfect Spanish Mission Revival arch.

The menu is canonically Italian-American — the Lasagna and Chicken Parm are top-tier — and Pèpe makes the Tiramisù himself at his nearby Carmel Bakery. In the dining room, a sign hangs beneath an early-1900s family portrait: "God bless our home and peace to all who enter."

Vesuvio

Trattoria & Pizzeria

Named for the volcano that gates the Amalfi Coast — and on weekends, it erupts. Wood-burning Neapolitan pizza, homemade ravioli, and a rotating carte of California farm produce, with inventive cocktails like the Momma's Boy drawing the locals in.

End the night with Limoncello — as a Limoncello Mousse Cake, a Play That Funky Cello cocktail, or a $5 shot of house Pèpecello, pristine enough to earn an I.G.P. designation from the Italian government. Cin cin!

Pèppoli

at Pebble Beach

Where Italy's rich traditions meet the California coast. For over twenty years, authentic Tuscan-style dishes have been paired with the widest selection of Antinori wines outside of Tuscany.

Pèppoli takes its name from one of the wine estates of Marchese Piero Antinori — called "the most important winemaker in Italy" — Pèpe's collaborator and friend.

Carmel Bakery

In its earliest days, Carmel-by-the-Sea was a Bohemian artist colony — just Leidig's grocery, Slevin's stationery, the Pine Inn, and Carmel Bakery. Owned by the Pèpe family since 1986, it is California's oldest bakery still in its original location: more than 120 years of uninterrupted craft.

Pèpe started in a family bakery at fourteen, and no one gets up earlier. The motto for Pèpe and his bakers has never changed.

"We bake while you sleep."

La Famiglia è Tutto

Family is Everything

"Noi siamo Italiani." The Pèpes are a proud Italian-American family, and everything you taste here has been handed down — grandparents' recipes reminiscent of Napoli, with a side of Pèpe's gutsy New Jersey roots.

Today, Pèpe's sons Christian and Gian Antonio and his wife Sandra are an integral part of the business. It is their passion to share their family lifestyle and traditions with every guest who walks through the door.
